Sea Prayer

Of Displacement, Nostalgia and Seeking Refuge

Khaled Hosseini pens a poem-prayer about the people of Syria who are displaced due to war and are not welcomed anywhere else either. The poem's narrative voice recounts with nostalgia the times of peace and beauty in Syria. Then in a flash, people have to leave their homes of generations only to find that no one wants them entering their country. They are treated with contempt rather than compassion, despite having lost everything, sometimes even their families.

The author beseeches us to not lose our humanity and to see every human as a fellow, not an enemy.

Accompanied by beautiful water-colour illustrations by Dan Williams, this pithy book says a hundred stories and makes us think a hundred thoughts.
