Michael Rosen's Sad Book was written as a testimony to the sadness he felt after the loss of his son Eddie at 19. He did not talk about it or write about it immediately. It took him a long time to allow his grief leak onto paper. And thank god he did. The Sad Book captures the sadness we all feel when we lose a loved one. Not all days are bad and we do have to go about doing things but in our heart we carry the loss of not being able to talk to or be their companions.

Rosen uses his personal grief to help children and adults to come to terms with the loss of a parent, friend or child and make some sense of it, and above all to not feel alone.
