A Great Picture Biography About The Women Achievers Of India

Aparna Jain tells the story of 51 remarkable Indian women who have shone in the field of sports, music, art, social service, politics, administration and more. The book is in the format of short picture biographies to introduce children to the work of these remarkable women.

Some were queens who insisted on being called Sultan, rather than Sultana which meant wife of the sultan.

Some fought for women working in the unorganised sector, some sang for India's glorious heroines, some played awesome cricket. All of them were brave, especially when the times were difficult. Most of them suffered from a special kind of deafness - they refused to hear that it could not be done, especially by women.

Their stories are especially remarkable since they have achieved so much in India, a country in which there are so many societal norms on how women should behave and the things they can do. Many of these women may seem docile and simple but their hearts are brave and they boldly reached out for their dreams.

Sultana Razia, Chand Bibi, Rani Lakshmibai, Mrinali Sarabhai, Leila Seth, Ela.R.Bhatt, Aruna Roy, Teesta Setalvad, Sunita Narain, Kalpana Chawla and M.S.subbalakshmi are some of the women achievers immortalised in this book.

A great read for young boys and girls to be read, inspired and get going on the path of their dreams.
