A for Ajrakh: The A to Z of Block Printing

A Picture book about the Handcrafted Fabrics of India

WHATSAPP

Nina Sabnani - illustrator, filmmaker, animator and a professor of design- has created a delightful alphabet book using the block prints of India. A is for Ajrakh, while B is for Bagh and C is for Chhipa; D stands for dabbana or to press. Each print is accompanied with a short note about its origins, any tale if associated with it and how the print is made.

The wealth of information covered by the author is deep and yet she takes utmost care that her young readers can understand and appreciate the different traditions that go into making the handcrafted fabrics of India. A beautiful book for adults too who are looking at discovering the handicraft traditions of India. Kudos to Tulika for this well-crafted book.
